Shore A.C. Tsunami Swamps Hook Or Crook 12K

Red flags lined the Jersey Shore that fateful day of the 2023 By Hook Or By Crook 12K national-level and state-level race.  People assumed that off-shore extra-tropical storm Lee and its dangerous rip currents were to blame.  But could it be that those rouge banners were really meant to warn the other teams: hey, watch out for Shore Athletic Club!?

After all, Shore AC athletes came rolling onto the Sandy Hook race venue like a tidal wave.  We had 58 runners swirling around the Shore A.C. tent, expeditiously taking care of pre-race duties.  There were race bibs and age group bibs to pin onto singlets, team photos to take and team check-ins to pass.  Once those tasks were finished, our gang members warmed up for the SEPTEMBER SPECTACULAR: the massive 12K race!

As we runners stood behind the starting line waiting for the word "Go!", we thanked Mother Nature for a cooler and much less humid day than last year.  Buoyed by the bright early morning sunshine, the pack sped down the main park road like a rushing torrent.  The embedded sea of white Shore A.C. jerseys added froth.  About 40 minutes later, the human tide began roaring back down the road to the finish line.  To the delight of Shore A.C. fans, many of our men and women gushed in with the leaders.

When contestants had flowed in and team results calculated, the name "Shore Athletic Club" was plastered across the leaderboard.  Our dashing darts distinguished themselves at both national and state levels.  How is this for a "storm surge" of great results?

Unfortunately, the members of the second-place Shore AC men's 40+ team had to depart prior to the start of the medals ceremony.  As a result, we have no podium picture of that superb set of guys.

Individual Accomplishments

Such a magnificent day it was for the Shore AC distance runners at the By Hook Or By Crook 12K race!.  We list here only their tremendous accomplishments in the USATF Masters National competition.  Know, though, that our individual triumphs is the USATF-NJ Open and Masters competition were copious!

Finally, let's give a rousing cheer to our newest members of the club, who debuted for Shore AC at the By Hook Or By Hook 12K race.  They were 49-year-old Crissa Thurman and 51-year-old Eric Puma.  (Yes, Eric is the husband of existing club member Alysia.  How marvelous to have another running couple in the club!)
