Hi-Ho, Silver! Shore AC's Lone Rangers Capture Second in Lubbock
The duo came riding into town on a mission: to run like thoroughbreds and do their club proud. The original plan called for a larger posse, but Winter Storm Cora cut off all the others at the pass (rather, at or even before the airport). So it was that Scott Siriano and Liliah Gordon arrived as the lone representatives of Shore Athletic Club.
They made their appearances count! Competing in the masters men's 8 kilometer race, Siriano stormed to a silver-medal finish in his 55-59 age group. His time of 33:25 placed Scott in the middle third of all 15 quinquagenarians in the race. This was his inaugural race in a Shore AC singlet. Welcome to the club, Scott. Great to have you aboard!
Our other athlete at Lubbock has actually been associated with Shore AC for at least five years. Gordon learned the sport of running in Big Bob Andrews' Gone Running youth program. Now a senior at North Burlington High School, she is coached these days by fellow Shore AC athlete Ryan Rafferty. Liliah drew acclaim for placing second at Meet Of Champions in November and competing at Foot Locker in December. Those incredible races were mere preludes to this national event. Liliah peaked at the right time, scorching the 6-kilometer course in a scintillating time of 21:57 to place second. She lagged two-time defending champion Zariel Macchia by only 11 seconds. Congratulations, Liliah!
Five other Shore AC harriers had intended to race in Lubbock. They were Jim and Kitty Musante, Leslie and Przemek Nowicki and yours truly, Scott Linnell. Unfortunately, a major winter storm foiled their plans. We were not the only ones affected. A whopping 33 out of the 96 registered masters athletes failed to show. Teams were decimated. There was only one complete squad in the women's masters race, while the masters men's race had just four teams. In a sense, our Shore AC masters teams are fortunate. We didn't lose much ground in the 2025 National Grand Prix to teams from opposing clubs. Let's take advantage of this gift by blitzing the National 10K in Dedham, Massachusetts, on April 27!
