Shore AC Men Win the President's Cup 5K in a Landslide

I wasn't there so I don't really know, but some sorcerer must have put our Shore AC athletes into a trance before last night's President's Cup 5K race.  How else can you explain their stupendous performances on such a hot and steamy evening?  The National Weather Service had issued excessive heat warnings for northeastern New Jersey that expired at the 8:00 pm race start time, so you can imagine how utterly drippy it must have felt to run the streets of Millburn last night.  Nevertheless, SAC harriers flooded the leaderboard with 9 men among the top 25.  These guys could have run across hot coals and still ranked high!

It should come as no surprise that our Open Men "A" team dominated.  Their average time of 16:49 for the five scoring members of the team outdistanced second-place Raritan Valley (a 19:31 average) by nearly 3 minutes.  Brothers Brian Hill and Troy Hill led the Shore AC conga line, blitzing the two-loop course in 15:30 and 15:36, respectively, to finish second and third overall.  Ace JP Montgomery followed with a magnificent 17:01 as third team scorer.  Masters-age speedster Marc Blanco kept up the pressure on our competition with a spectacular 17:37.  High school teacher and coach John Larkin slammed the door on team scoring when he crossed in 18:19 as fifth man.  Carlos Nunes  (18:38), Mark Minervini (18:50), Billy Washer (18:53) and Frank Novak (20:59) all provided sure-fire insurance to guarantee the team victory.  With this win, our Shore AC Open Men team takes a commanding lead in the 2025 USATF-NJ Paul Miller Auto Group LDR Grand Prix.  We have 44 points, giving us a 20-point cushion over the second-place team.

Shore AC had a "B" team in this race, too.  The boys nailed fifth place, best among all "B" teams.  Joe Demetrick got the guys going with a tremendous 20:37.  Newcomer Mauro Castro nailed the number two scoring position with his excellent 21:54.  Rookie workhorse Mike Heal fashioned a fine 22:22 as our #3 man.  John Delaney (24:03) and Mike DiLeva (24:11) rounded out team scoring as they grappled with the hideous heat.  SAC veterans Przemek Nowicki (29:07) and Barry Blake (31:30) played backstop just in case one of the first five faltered.  By nabbing fifth place, the "B" team lads earned 6 Grand Prix points for the team.  Bravo, boys!
