POINT PLEASANT - John Soucheck led the way in the annual Al Saner Racewalks
May 18 with a winning performance of
1:43:23 in the featured 20-kilometer
division. The veteran Shore AC athlete, a Little Silver resident, circled the
Al Saner Field track 50 times at just over eight-minute pace per mile.

Shore AC teammate Tom Quattrocchi of Old Bridge (2:04:33) was his closest
competitor.

Janet Higbie of Indianapolis led a delegation of visiting athletes and
took the women's 20K title in
2:14:52, setting an American record for the
60-69 division in the process.   Donna Cetrulo of
Long Branch was a close
second in 2:
15:49.

The event was staged by Shore AC and sponsored by Jersey Mike's
Submarines.  Other winners included Cliff Mimm of
Willingboro and Maryanne
Torrellas of
Clinton, Ct. in the 10K Division, Chris Stuart of Paramus and
Sherry Brosnahan of
Bridgewater in the 5K, and Ed Gawinski of Newark, Del. in
the 3K.

Athletes from five states, representing five racewalking clubs, took
part.

Next event on the Shore area racewalking calendar will be the 35th annual
Sanford Kalb nine-mile walk, a
9 a.m. start Sunday, May 25 at Lake Carasaljo,
Lakewood. Entries will be accepted until race time.
